– You’re out of luck: hết vận may, không may mắn
Ex:
If you want to buy chocolate, you’re out of luck. They sold out!
– You can’t win them all/ win some, lose some: Được cái này mất cái kia
Ex: Mary: I was sorry to hear that you didn’t win your court case. – Jane: Well, you win some, you lose some.
– Too bad/bad luck/ hard luck: thật không may là, đáng tiếc là
Ex:
It’s bad luck. I lost all money.
– On a lucky run: đang gặp vận may
Ex:
He is on a lucky run. He has just won a lottery this morning. Yesterday, he won a car.
– Keep your fingers crossed: chúc may mắn nhé
Ex:
Let’s keep our fingers crossed. We will try our best.
– Beginner’s luck: hiện tượng ăn may của người mới bắt đầu làm việc gì đó ( đặc biệt dùng trong trường hợp đánh bạc, cá độ, trò chơi…)
Ex:
I could never have accomplished this if I had practiced a lot. My win was just beginner’s luck.
– Be down on your luck: gặp vận rủi
Ex:
He’s been down on his luck recently.
– As luck would have it: thật may mắn bất ngờ
Ex:
We ran out of petrol on the way home, but as luck would have it, we were very near a garage.
– A lucky break: ăn may
Ex: She’s never had a lucky break. All her success came from her attempt.
